There are many tourists, but it's still a popular tapas shop in Barcelona that's worth a visit.
This La Pepita was recommended to me by a wine research classmate. I knew it was very popular, but I was actually scared by the crowd queuing at the door when I arrived at the scene. Fortunately, there is a reservation first, otherwise it will really take a long time to wait.
The space in the store is not spacious, it is crowded as a whole, and it is quite noisy, but the lively feeling is actually very much like the atmosphere of a local tapas bar in Spain, a bit like the rhythm of a Taiwanese stir-fry shop. Everyone chats loudly, the tables are very close, and the cooking speed is fast. The air is full of alcohol, grease and human voices.Mixed heat. The wall decoration is also very personalized, not taking the exquisite and high-end route, but a lively style with a little casual and street sense.
Almost all of the dishes ordered this time were recommended by the clerk, and it can be regarded as a round of eating that directly followed the most popular route of this store.

La Pepita menu introduction

Drink|Sangría 1L (Sangria fruit Wine) 23€
When you come to a tapas shop in Spain, it is almost natural to order a pot of Sangría.
La Pepita's Sangría is a relatively refreshing version. It is based on red wine and blended with fruit and a little sweetness. The alcohol is not too strong. The overall is slightly sweet and smooth. It is very suitable for pairing with tapas, and it is also very suitable for many people to share together.
Cold Tapas

Burrata con speck (Burrata cheese + smoked ham) 15.75€
The rich and creamy burrata is paired with salty and clear smoked ham. The bottom is covered with oily tomato puree and pickled tomatoes. The basil sauce is added to the top to string up the overall flavor, and the croutons next to it make up the taste level. The great thing about this dish is that it does not rely solely on Burrata itself to win, but balances the milky, salty, acidity and herbal aromas very well.
This should be one of the best Burrata I have ever eaten so far, and it's no wonder that almost every table has a bit.

Ceviche de corvina (sea bass, ceviche, raw fish) 16€
This dish has a distinct Latin American style. Raw fish marinated in citrus has a distinctive acidity, is very appetizing in the mouth, and has a spicy feeling. It is accompanied by sweet potato slices to increase the crispy taste.
The flavor is actually very memorable, and the fish is fresh enough, but the spiciness is too high for me. After eating, it even makes people want to match rice. If you like the distinctive style of hot and sour, you should like it very much; But for me, although I can understand its characteristics, it's not me.My favorite dish of the meal.

Tartar de Salmón (Salmon Tata) 16€
This dish is also recommended by the clerk. The raw salmon is diced and matched with avocado puree, and the kelp is surrounded by it. It feels like I want to make a little Japanese-style presentation.
But it actually tastes a bit subtle. There is no problem with the ingredients themselves, but the direction of the overall combination is a bit vague, and the flavors are not really integrated. You won't find it unpleasant after eating, but compared to the previous Burrata, this dish is obviously not that pleasing.

Creative cuisine

Foie chocolate (Foie Gras chocolate) 13.5€
This dish is the one that I think is the most interesting and best reflects the style of La Pepita in the whole meal.
Foie gras with white chocolate originally sounded like a combination that was easy to miss, but it was actually unexpectedly reasonable. The sweetness of white chocolate overlaps with the rich fat of foie gras. Diced bitter chocolate and coffee powder are sprinkled on top, and finally eaten with small round crispy bread, forming a very layered sweet and salty interlace.
This approach is relatively rare in other tapas stores, and it does make an impression. I like it myself.
Hot Tapas

Can Pepi Fried Chicken (signature Fried Chicken) 15.8€
This dish is one of the signs in the store and is also highly recommended by the clerk.
The chicken is cut into very large pieces, the meat is very tender, and the skin is fried quite crispy. It is topped with onion sauce and yogurt sauce, which is slightly spicy, and there is lettuce underneath. The overall taste has a wonderful sense of familiarity, which reminds me of the fun of "eating together with lettuce" in Taiwanese shrimp mats, but the protagonist has changed to fried chicken.
The amount of this dish is not small, and you will really feel half full after eating it. Although it is not the tapas dot in the traditional impression, it is very existential as a signboard in the store.

Croquetas de gamba (shrimp croquettes) 6.5€
Croquetas is almost the basic dish of tapas shops in Spain, and the shrimp flavor is a relatively safe one.
The outer skin is fried golden and crispy, while the inner filling is a blend of fresh shrimp and rich béchamel white sauce. It tastes smooth and creamy. It is the kind of classic snacks that are not easy to make mistakes and are indeed pleasing.

Pincho argentino (Argentine skewers) 11.5€
This is a South American-style beef skewer with sliced mushrooms on top and grains similar to barley on the bottom.
It actually tastes ordinary. The taste of the beef is too hard, and it does not show the meaty flavor and juiciness that the beef skewers should have, and the grains under it do not have obvious extra points. Overall, it is a relatively not-so-recommended dish in this meal.

After-dinner surprise | free Shot
Towards the end of the meal, the clerk also invited everyone to have a shot for one person. You can choose your own flavor. One is herbal liqueur and the other is coffee liqueur. This small ending has the enthusiasm of a Spanish restaurant.
Overall dining experience and personal feelings
La Pepita is indeed a shop with a lot of tourists, but I don't think it is the kind of place that "it's not worth going to if it's red."
On the contrary, it still has its attractive reasons.
The characteristic of this shop is actually not the ultimate refinement, nor is it to make tapas more advanced, but to make traditional tapas younger and more varied. Some dishes retain the intimacy that Spanish snacks should have, while others are a little more creative and interesting. Overall, they will feel delicious, fun, and very suitable for friends to have dinner.
If more than four people come together, I think it will be more ideal, because many dishes here are very suitable for sharing, more people can eat more variety, and the serving size will be more just right.
Overall, although the store is crowded and noisy, that is also part of its charm. This is not a quiet and delicate restaurant, but a very vibrant tapas shop that is suitable for relaxing, eating and drinking with friends while traveling.
