Stay in the forest for one night and give yourself to TeamLab, hot springs and sea breeze

If you have already seen TeamLab Planets in Tokyo or Unbounded in Toyosu, and are looking for a TeamLab that is "not like an art museum", the newly opened "TeamLab Hidden Valley Hidden Field Trail" will be a very special stop. It is hidden in the valley of Kitabaraki City, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is directly connected to it.The camping and hot spring resort of "Wupu Yougu Yintianji Hot Spring", watching light and shadow in the forest at night, going back to the tent to eat BBQ, soaking in the source of the hanging stream hot spring and looking up at the sea of lights, really visualizes the phrase "live in the work".

(October 2025)

One night and two meals in a high-end tent (27,500 yen/person)

It's not close to Tokyo, but it's suitable for arranging a "night away from the city"

Gokura Yougu Yin Tianji Hot Spring is located in Kitabaraki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, near the coast of Gokura. It is also the place where Okakura Tenshin, the father of modern art, stayed in his later years.

Also because of this sense of distance, the atmosphere of the park is obviously biased towards resorts on the local guest floor of Japan, rather than typical tourist attractions in large cities: the forest is very quiet at night, and there is almost no crowd noise. It is suitable for people who really want to stay away from the city and slow down.

Accommodation form: High-end tent Glamping

There are two types of single-family chalets and luxury camping tents in the park. This time I chose the "high-end tent".

️️There are four queen-size beds + one sofa in the tent. The space is very spacious for two people to stay, and it is very suitable for multiple people to pack their tents together.
️️The basic equipment is readily available: heating, lighting, tables and chairs, simple storage space, and luggage is not crowded when spread out.
️️This place is more like a "camping version of Villa" than a real camping, so don't worry about sleeping in embarrassment.

But the reality that needs to be made clear first is:
️️The bathroom is outside the tent, you need to go out and use a public or semi-public space
️️I like the restaurant style of "there is a dry and warm en suite bathroom when you open the door", so I have to adjust my psychological expectations.

The overall comfort I think is "people who like the outdoors, but don't want to set up their own tents and cook by themselves" will feel just right.

Hot spring experience: hanging stream from the source + open-air bath with TeamLab works

The main feature of Wupu Yougu Yintianji Hot Spring is the "source hanging stream". The open-air hot spring pool is directly wrapped in greenery, and it will be combined with TeamLab's light and shadow works at night.

What I was most looking forward to was soaking in the hot spring at night, and when I looked up, I could see the light bulbs floating on the terraces changing with the forest lights. However, I only received a notice one month before departure that the main landscaping "terraced area" is under repair and cannot be lit.

For people who are rushing towards the terraced scene (such as me), I am honestly disappointed. After the itinerary is arranged, it is difficult to make temporary changes. I can only accept the regret that I did not see the complete scene this time.

One night and two meals: unexpectedly high-level BBQ dinner and stomach-warming ginseng chicken soup breakfast

Dinner: Beef and Seafood top Barbecue

I originally thought it was just a general camping area supporting BBQ, but the actual level of food exceeded expectations.:
The freshness and handling of the ingredients in Wukong are very good, and the beef and seafood are all at the level of "well picked". The park focuses on Changlu beef and offshore seafood, and the overall ingredients are set to a certain standard.
Wukong provides a dedicated BBQ oven, the heat is so controlled that it will not be smoky.
There is a mosquito net structure fenced around the orangutan seat, so it will not be roasted or attacked by mosquitoes. This is very important in the forest environment.

As a whole, it is a relaxed BBQ that "you don't need to prepare by yourself, and you don't need to be nervous to bake." Just concentrate on chatting, drinking drinks, and occasionally flipping through the ingredients.

Breakfast: Ginseng chicken soup that was unexpectedly healed

The protagonist of breakfast is ginseng chicken soup. After waking up in the forest, drink a bowl of hot chicken soup, and the whole person is instantly awakened.

teamLab: Hidden Traces of Rice Terraces : Digital Art at Night Walking in Moriyama

"TeamLab Hidden Valley Hidden Field Trail" is a new field that will open in 2024. It belongs to TeamLab's Digitized Nature series: instead of putting the work in the white box art museum, it simply turns the forest and terraces themselves into part of the work.

Light and shadow appear together with insects, birds, and the smell of the forest, and the body's senses will be more fully developed.

I personally like several works with forest trees as the main characters. When the colors flow between the trunks and the canopy, I suddenly feel for an instant: "It turns out that the forest can grow like this." 」

There are actually not many tourists on the scene, especially compared with the popularity of TeamLab in Tokyo, it is obviously much calmer here. But when you stand on the scene and look at the lights arranged along the valley, buried in the water or among the trees, you will know that the construction and maintenance cost of this venue may actually be higher than that of indoor works.

Personal feelings

I would recommend "Wupu Yougu Yin Tianji Hot Spring × TeamLab Yougu Yin Tianji" to:
❤️People who have already seen TeamLab in Tokyo and want to experience a completely different field
❤️People who like the atmosphere of forests, hot springs, and camping, but don't have to stay in high-rise hotels;
❤️I want to give the day completely to the same field, not chasing the number of attractions, but only the "density of experience" travelers.

In terms of itinerary, it can be combined with the coastline scenery of northern Ibaraki Prefecture, the Hitachi area or the Fukuroda Waterfall and other attractions as a "one-night healing trip away from Tokyo."

For me, the biggest feeling this time is:

Even if you missed the most anticipated sea of terraced lights, walking in the forest that night, eating BBQ in a tent, and spending time in a daze in a hot spring still made people feel that it was worth a visit.

  • address: 2132 Fanji Otsucho, Kitaibaraki, Ibaraki 319-1702 Japan
  • To take the shinkansen and train, you need to transfer from Tokyo (Ueno) to Mito, and then from Mito to Otsu. After leaving Otsu station, you can call a taxi at the door. Before taking a taxi, you can go to the convenience store opposite to replenish food. The total journey takes about 2 hours.

If you still have a little space in your itinerary and are willing to leave the rhythm to the valley and the sea breeze, then this will be a stop that is well worth "special bypass".

關於我

Choosy Chou

Hi, this is Chou Chou. Because I have always been "picky" about good things, I founded Choosy Chou to record and share the food, flavors and travel experiences that are truly worthy of being remembered. I am a food and flavor explorer, from street food to Michelin restaurants, from hidden bars to boutique cafes, I like to use my professional senses to taste, understand and compare, rather than just taking pictures and checking in. I have WSET Wine Level 2, WSET Sake Level 1, SSI Sake Navigator, and Coffee CSP Sensory Skill Foundation licenses. I hope to use a more systematic way to show you the flavor value behind a glass of wine and a dish. I have traveled to many countries such as the United States, Japan, South Korea, Iceland, and the United Kingdom. I believe that the most authentic language in the world is hidden on the table and in the cup. Choosy is not picky, but an insistence on the quality of life. You are welcome to join me in savoring the world with higher standards.
