Originally, I only came for sake, but I accidentally met a restaurant and tavern that would make people want to visit again and again.

French Monstar is the kind of hidden restaurant that is easy to miss if you don't do your homework.
Only four groups of guests are accepted every day, and a full reservation system is adopted. Reservations need to be made in advance by IG or Email.

The small storefront is full of surprises. The wines are highly rare and in excellent condition (which is really very important). The utensils and wine glasses are carefully selected, and even the high-end fine dining is not lost at all.

The most surprising thing is that the meal itself is so strong that the chef actually came back from a three-star French restaurant. I fully understand why many regular customers come and come again.

French Monstar menu introduction and dining experience

Meal

Freshly shaved truffle chicken liver

The chicken liver is rich and smooth, has no fishy smell at all, and has a clean aroma.
Freshly shaved black truffles and crispy biscuit sticks make the flavor instantly advanced. It is the kind of food that gets smoother and smoother, and the more you eat, the more you want to match the wine.
As the first line, the rhythm is very well grasped.

Mullet roe cheese

Thin slices of mullet roe with cheese and seaweed are biased towards "a little peace of mind when drinking."
The flavor is not too strong. My mother and I discussed while eating: "This dish seems to be able to be made at home in the future. 」

 Smoked tomato, sea bream, caviar

Fish dishes recommended by the store.
The freshness of the sea bream is very good, and the meat is firm and sweet.
After pairing with smoked tomatoes, olive oil and caviar, the whole dish has a four-layer structure of seafood, fruity, smoky, and umami at the same time, and the completion of vision and taste is satisfactory.

Wagyu steak, truffles, onion, red wine sauce

I didn't expect much at first, after all, steaks in restaurants and taverns are usually good as long as they don't miss them.
Unexpectedly, it was a surprise in the surprise. The wagyu beef is soft but not greasy, the maturity is perfectly controlled, and the meat taste is clean. After using truffle and onion red wine sauce, the level is deeper.
The most intimate thing is that the chef directly divides us into two parts. This kind of detail usually only appears in high-end French meals, which is completely commendable.

Wine meal Basque

The Basque cake made from wine meal has a slight wine aroma and gentle sweetness, which is just right as a finishing touch. If you have a dissatisfied stomach, you really want to brush the menu all over.

Personal feelings

This is a shop that you will fall in love with once you enter the door.
The space is not large, but the atmosphere is comfortable; although the store manager is not fluent in English, the service is sincere, and the wines are well selected and better preserved. This is very important for drinkers.

If there are more people, you can order a few more dishes, and each one has highlights worth savoring.
For me, it has been included in the restaurant that I will definitely visit next time I come to Tokyo.

about me

關於我

Choosy Chou

Hi, this is Chou Chou. Because I have always been "picky" about good things, I founded Choosy Chou to record and share the food, flavors and travel experiences that are truly worthy of being remembered. I am a food and flavor explorer, from street food to Michelin restaurants, from hidden bars to boutique cafes, I like to use my professional senses to taste, understand and compare, rather than just taking pictures and checking in. I have WSET Wine Level 2, WSET Sake Level 1, SSI Sake Navigator, and Coffee CSP Sensory Skill Foundation licenses. I hope to use a more systematic way to show you the flavor value behind a glass of wine and a dish. I have traveled to many countries such as the United States, Japan, South Korea, Iceland, and the United Kingdom. I believe that the most authentic language in the world is hidden on the table and in the cup. Choosy is not picky, but an insistence on the quality of life. You are welcome to join me in savoring the world with higher standards.
